The race to be the first football club to pass the 10m mark was a close run affair with 3 clubs in the frame; Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Manchester United.
Two of these world famous clubs have now past the milestone, Manchester United and Barcelona, with the fans of the Spanish outfit seeing their club past the post first.
Football has really taken off on Facebook in the last 6 months with United not even having an official present until August last year. To amass over 10m fans in such a short period shows the global reach of the club and how it has made the most of the opportunity.
It would be interesting to see how this new platform has affected the bottom line and what their objectives have been and will be going forward. The club has concentrated its efforts on Facebook as the only non-dotcom site it has a presence on. Twitter is still something being left to the likes of @rioferdy5 and @luisnani.
The platform for all clubs is proving to be a fantastic asset as they are able to disseminate news, images, video and much more in an area where the fans are everyday rather than looking just at their website and official news outlets.
So Barcelona are still top dogs out of the worlds football clubs but to put this into perspective, Cristiano Ronaldo currently boasts 21,043,643 fans! Double that of the biggest club in the world!
It shows that although our elegancies are with the clubs were are brought up supporting, our interest is with the top players such as Ronaldo, Messi and Beckham.
