Yesterday saw the first ever Social Media & Sport Summit by The UK Sports Network in the lovely city of Nottingham in the East Midlands. We had about 40 delegates at the event from a very diverse range of business and roles including Nottingham City Council Sports Development Team, Notts County Cricket Club, Speedo, iDealogic, Huddersfield Town FC, English Table Tennis, Notts County Council, First Media Solutions and many more.
The idea for the event was to held break down some of barriers to participation in social media within the sports industry. Not an easy objective to set but which I believed would be an interesting and much needed one. To help achieve this I brought together some speakers who I believed would give a great blend of case studies and theory to enable everyone who attended to go away deeling enthused and that they learned at least one thing new that they could use.
To help me do this were;
Andy Barber and Nick Howard from England Athletics
Ed Hartigan from Spearfish Labs
Ben Thompson from Macesport
Phil Jeffs and Ben Taylor from Fudge
To say that the day went well is an understatement. For all the worrying and last minute preparations it went better than I could ever have hoped thanks to the fantastic content delivered by the guys above. Some examples of the great feedback from the event so far has been…
“I attend at least a couple of events a week, many of them Social Media orientated, and I have to say yesterday was one of the best I have been to so far. The speakers were excellent.”
“Really enjoyed today, thanks for organising a great event, really useful”
“Great event this morning, well done. Good speakers, good interaction, good networking. Spot on.”
“The session was extremely useful, insightful and informative have definitely benefitted from attending.”
“Ryan and Andy have come back enthused by what was discussed. So well done, and I think you’ve just made my job even harder now!!”
“Great to meet you yesterday and thank you so much for inviting me to such a fantastic event. So much useful information, my head is still buzzing! ”
I did get chance to film Ben’s talk which I will be adding shortly to this page (it is 30 mins long and could take a while to upload!). I have also added the slides from each of the talks to give you a flavour of the day and photos that were taken.
If you are interested in Social Media & Sport then we will be running another Summit on Thursday 15th July in London with speakers from Liverpool FC, Lotus Racing, Paratus Communitcations, #TruEvents, We Win Games, FFW, Marzell Consulting and Spearfish Labs. You can find out more at http://smsslondon.eventbrite.com

Hey
Mind if I link this in my blog?
Shame I couldn't make it, but the event sounds like a real success. I hope this initial summit is built upon for future events, I would be very interested in attending in the future. Having flicked through the slideshows, there was clearly an excellent range of speakers on show with a sound understanding of social media best practice in the UK sports industry.
Congratulations on a great event!
Thanks Will, glad you liked the slides. I hope to put up one of the talks soon as I managed to shoot some video footage.
The next SM&S Summit is in London next Thursday (15th) and we are adding a workshop in Nottingham in the coming weeks as well.
Lots going on, be great to see you at one of them!
Daniel
