Daniel McLaren
I’m a sports professional with over 8 years experience working in sports event management, sponsorship and social media. This website was a natural progression from LinkedIn Group as an opportunity to add great content and offer more a different experience for people in the UK who are interested in sport.
I started the LinkedIn group in November 2009 as a means to share sports industry best practices, social media insights and the latest developments in sports. Since then well over 1000 professionals from all forms of sports life have joined including clubs, NGB’s, marketing, PR, media, sponsorship and many others. I developed the website to offer additional content and started running the events side in April 2010 with a networking event in Preston.
The group now has a presence on twitter (@uksportsnetwork) and Facebook as it continues to expand and grow. If you feel you can contribute to the writing on this site then please get in touch with me at daniel@theuksportsnetwork.com.
This July sees two ‘Social Media & Sport’ summits which are bringing together some top speakers highlighting the great work being done in the field and helping to knock down some of barriers that prevent sport from embracing it more readily. The response has been amazing from the first event and attendee list for the London event has blown me away – some great companies and clubs from the UK!
Below is a video when I was interviewed by Chalie Mulraine from Mulraine Sports for his online video resource site, helping to promote the transition between professional sport and business life.
Hope you enjoy the site, group and events. Any feedback is always welcome and if you would like to be involved then get in touch!
