My name is Dan Mclaren and this is my blog. Here I write about Social Media/Digital Technology specifically within the Sports Industry. Looking at the latest news, technologies and offering my thoughts/views. These views are my own and do not reflect those of my employer.
I’m a Senior Account Manager working for social media specialist agency we are social. At our offices in Farringdon I am still devoted to sport where I work on the adidas account on a global level.
As way of background, I have been working in the sports industry for over 10 years now and have worked in events, marketing and sponsorship for sports as diverse as cricket, snooker, table tennis, squash and golf. It has given me a great insight into many aspects of the industry.
Before my role at we are social I worked at Carat Digital. There I looked after adidas UK, helping form their social media presence and develop other digital projects. I worked on; the massive global adidas ‘all in’ campaign (project managing the site build and creating the UK social strategy), various product launches, brought @adidasUK into existence and worked on driving awareness of social media.
I started blogging in January 2010 when I set up the UK Sports Network. Since then there have been over 200 articles posted (not all by me) and it has become an important part of my life. I hope to not only help others through the site but also meet and be inspired by new people every day. There are a number of articles on the site by other (great) writers to check out and the occasional guest post is always welcomed.
I’ve also been lucky to become involved in interviews and even won an award in this last year (!). The highlights have certainly been;
- Appearing on BBC Radio 5 Live show with Matt Dawson talking about ‘football and social media’ (June 2011)
- Asked to contribute to BBC Sport article titled ‘Twitter Ye Not‘ (Jan 2011)
- Winning the award for ‘Best International Sports Business Contributor’ (2011 Business of Sports Awards)
If you would like to get to know me more, feel free to send me an invite on LinkedIn, follow me on Twitter or email me on daniel@theuksportsnetwork.com (I check it every few days)
Thanks for taking the time to visit my site. I hope to meet up with you soon.
(below is an interview I did back in summer 2010 – you may find it interesting….hopefully!)
